A recent study suggest that Longevinex, a pill containing a modest amount of resveratrol, consumed along with the antioxidants found in 3 to 5 glasses of red wine, is better than resveratrol alone. This study states that you may benefit from taking the pill, but you should drink your wine too. We have all heard for years that red wine acts as a “heart protectant,” as evidenced by the French having 30% less cardiac mortality as opposed to North Americans, despite the Francophiles’ fat laden diet. Now we that know too much resveratrol (i.e. mega doses) may lead to inhibition of tumor necrosis factor (TNF). TNF is important as it helps to destroy unhealthy cells in our bodies. A lack of TNF allows radical cells to continue to replicate, thus leading to certain types of cancer such as lymphoma, while too much TNF could cause an excessive inflammatory response. I guess the best solution to the glass versus the pill debate is to take your pill with a glass of red wine.
better health through a pill, or glass of red wine?
