This Australian shiraz brimming with spicy dark fruit flavors produces a bold and delicious drink. With pepper and and earthy mint undertones this is a great wine to enjoy with friends while sharing a pizza during the football season. At $14 USD this wine is definitely worth trying.

Tonight, Mrs. Grapeinabottle and I shared a great new bottle of wine while beginning our Christmas decorating. One reason we thought the wine was so good was the price. The Tisdale Shiraz from California was a steal at $3.33 a bottle. It was on sale for three for $10, so I could not resist giving it a try. This wine had a nice raspberry punch with a smooth finish, and not too bitter. Overall, I think this is a great purchase for under four dollars, especially to share with casual wine drinkers. While writing this post I found Tisdale Shiraz for $3.06 a bottle, or 3 for $8.70 at Internet Wine and Spirits.

Today while shopping at Target, Mrs. Grapeinabottle and I stumbled upon the Wine Cube. We both acted as if we weren’t looking at this Target Brand boxed wine, when I finally broke the silence and declared that I wanted to give it a try. I must admit I have never tried a boxed wine before, at least to my knowledge (we often ate at a Chinese restaurant in New York that served free wine with dinner, and I suspect it came directly from cardboard). The 1.5 liter wine cube only comes in a Cabernet/Shiraz blend and Pinot Grigio, but a much wider selection is offered in the 3 liter packaging. We decided on the Cabernet/Shiraz blend and I must say it is a solid drink. This is a smooth wine, with hints of vanilla and spice that finish easy. Mrs. Grapeinabottle and I thought this would be a great choice to serve at large family events, because a lot of wine is consumed and at $10 USD for a 1.5 liter cube, the price is right at $4.50 a bottle.

This Shiraz, along with the company of Mrs. Grapeinabottle, definitely made the game better. Four Corner Shiraz delivers on its tasting note as “big raspberry and blackberry flavours with a subtle spiciness.” The finish is very smooth and for about $8 USD it is also easy on the wallet.

Don’t forget to check out their website to enter for the free trip!

I’m glad I had this bottle of Ashwood Grove Shiraz 2006 tonight. I was registering for a work conference and discovered the hotel was fully booked. Mrs. Grapeinabottle and I needed to find a solution to this dilemma. Wine always helps us brainstorm to a creative answer. The conference web site recommended a service that finds “overflow room for your booked conference,” but of course, the office was closed. So we enlisted the help of an online travel agency, and a few minutes later, problem solved: a very nice waterfront view suite at a nicer resort is now waiting for us (for less than the conference rate).

As for the wine: this Shiraz from Ashwood Grove lives up to its tasting notes with a spicy peppery punch and mixed berry splash. I do not appreciate the mint overtones, as they claim, but maybe you will. This Australian Shiraz is a great value, as I purchased it for about $8 USD. Please see the Alliance Brands website, which is a strategic distrubution alliance of outstanding Australian and New Zealand Wines, for tasting notes.
